Good Luck!

Yesterday was the last day of one of our coworkers. He is leaving the company for a less stressful profession as a teacher at his hometown. I will miss him as he is a great next-door-cubicle neighbor to have.

As the day came to an end, it was time to leave and there were some people saying goodbye to him and wishing him luck. Everyone was saying 'in buca al lupo' which means 'into the mouth of the wolf.' Yeah, Italians like to be dramatic like that.

One person however said, 'buona fortuna' which literally means 'good luck'. I found out later that was not a cool thing to say. It almost means bad luck to say that to someone. For example, someone would be very annoyed at you if you said 'buona fortuna' to him before an important interview or exam.

Well R, I wish you, in bocca al lupo!
